We all have this problem, spending to much time surfing around instead of doing the work we should be doing. How much time do you think we waste checking this and checking that out? I don’t know about anyone else, but I get side tracked easily. I own several sites that I work full-time from home with and I try to manage my time, but that never seems to work out.
My day should consist of getting up and checking email for support tickets or any other important site related stuff. Then I would get Traffic Browser opened and open 13 traffic exchanges that I am going to surf. I usually make it to that point without to much of a problem. I usually try to surf one hundred sites in each of those 13 TE’s. It takes quite a bit of time to accomplish this. I have to get logged into each site, then spread credits around to each site I am advertising. Then add banner credits to banner, and text ad impressions to text ads. So while I am waiting on Traffic Browser to get those sites opened, I turn on my iMac and my MacBook Pro.
I work with three computers at my desk. I got a PC for Traffic Browser, my iMac for my web design and website editing. Then I have my MacBook for anything else. I think that is where I go wrong. I end up looking at stuff people send me and wasting a lot of time. I spend a good 12-14 hours online a day, sometimes 7 days a week. I like to create stuff for my sites and check out what other people are doing.
When I started working at home I had a set goal to be basically done by noon, so I could have some me time, before the wife and kid gets home. That has never happened. I usually now just take breaks to eat and watch 20-30 minutes of TV, then I’m back at my desk checking emails, advertising, and designing.
I think tomorrow I am going to try to set a rigid schedule and see if I can stick to it and for how long. But I think the problem is I like to surf. Both surfing TE’s and surfing other sites is addictive. I think though, if I could just concentrate surfing on just a handful of TE’s instead of 13-20 a day, I would get more done at those TE’s and would see better results. What do you think? Is it better to hit as many TE’s as you can or is it better to concentrate on just a few each day? Let me know. I’d like to hear what you guys think.
Oh, I am also thinking of opening up my live conference room online and letting anyone who wants to, come in and brainstorm about how we can improved our businesses.
